The long wait for the 149th Open Championship is finally over. Two years after Shane Lowry won the 148th edition of this tournament, 156 golfers will face off at Royal St. George’s for the last major championship of 2021. Intrigue is plentiful for the first day of this tournament, but the most important of all. ‘between them is that everyone still has hope for the first 18 holes. This is the peculiarity of the first round of the major championships.
There are also a lot of potential special stories. Jon Rahm is trying to become the fifth golfer since WWII to win both the US Open and the Open Championship in the same year. Jordan Spieth is looking for his fourth major overall, while Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy are looking for their fifth. Then there’s Dustin Johnson trying to avenge a heartbreak from the 2011 Open here in Sandwich, England.
