According to the Bulletin, tuberculosis cases in the Sultanate increased from 96 per 100,000 in 2000 to 59 per 100,000 in 2018. He added that 249 new cases of tuberculosis were recorded in 2018, compared with 311 in 2000.
Minister Isham said that multidrug-resistant TB and extensively drug-resistant TB, as well as cases of TB infection in HIV patients, are two of the major challenges currently facing the world with regard to tuberculosis.
"Brunei Darussalam is very fortunate to see that the rate of TB and HIV-TB cases in this country is very low," he said.
World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every year on March 24 to raise public awareness of the health, social and economic consequences of the epidemic.
