Buhari, Obasanjo, Jonathan and others attend the State Council meeting

ABUJA – PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting in closed session with members of the National State Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting began at 11 am in the Council Chamber.

The State Council is composed of former Presidents and Heads of State, Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN), Presidents of the National Assembly and State Governors, among others.

Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, Goodluck Jonathan, former acting national prime minister, Ernest Shonekan and former army president, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Other participants at the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate Speaker Bukola Saraki and former CJN Mohammed Uwais.

Also present are the governors of Osun, Kebbi, Zamfara, Plateau, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Edo, Lagos, Niger, Borno, Ogun, Ekiti and Kogi states.

The Deputy Governors at the meeting are those of Bauchi, Kaduna and Rivers,

Federation Government Secretary (SGF), Boss Mustapha, Chief of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita, National Security Advisor, Babagana Monguno, FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, and Minister of Labor and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

President Buhari went to his house to shake his hand, including Dr. Obasanjo, as soon as he arrived in the Council Chamber.

Obasanjo also offered the opening Christian prayer while Mohammed Uwais said the Muslim prayer.

A minute of silence was observed in the honor of former President Shehu Shagari and deceased CJN Aloysius Katsina Alu and Idris Kutigi.

Former Chiefs of State Yakubu Gowon, Ibrahim Babangida and the former CJN, Mariam Muktar, apologized for their absence to the meeting.

Without listing the details of the agenda at the opening session, SGF secretary Boss Mustapha said the meeting would consider a five-point agenda.

Among the topics that should be discussed at the meeting are the national minimum wage and the confirmation of the appointment of Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The next general election and the nation's security should also hold the attention of the State Council.
