President Muhammadu Buhari praised the collaboration between security agencies on operations against Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.
His spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the executions were perfectly synchronized with the arrests of individuals who had inflicted suffering and hardship on their fellow citizens.
Shehu, in a statement, noted that the leaders of Kanu and the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) are known for their murderous actions and harsh messages.
“Any attack on an Ndigbo is an attack on Nigerians” – Sunday Igboho warns Buhari
He confirmed that the “international operation” against Kanu resulted in his handing over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and then his repatriation.
Aide said the IPOB-inspired violence has claimed hundreds of lives, especially against government assets and law enforcement officials.
“At last count, there have been fifty separate violent attacks, heavily concentrated in the South East, which have made the hardships of our honest and hardworking citizens more difficult, preventing them from earning a living and leading a normal life.”
Shehu confirmed that the government is monitoring IPOB’s activities and has good reason to believe that its funding sources include the proceeds of suspected illicit criminal activity.
The statement praised the raid on Igboho’s residence, “which also carried out acts of terror and disturbed the peace under the pretext of protecting his colleagues.”
Shehu added that his seditious remarks and antics, expressed publicly, over time turned into very hateful and vile speech.
The government respects the fundamental rights of citizens to express their opinions and recognizes this as a democratic principle, he stressed.
“However, any attempt to build an armory coupled with subtle or expressed plans to undermine our unity as a nation will not be tolerated.
“M. The president’s directives to the security services regarding anyone considered to be carrying arms, in particular AK-47, are clear and do not require any further light.
“Assault weapons are not tools for peace-loving people and as such, no matter who they are or where they come from, security agencies should treat them all the same.”
Shehu said that the successes of our security agencies are to be commended because they have shown great skill, cunning and secrecy in carrying out these missions.
