Desire Tibila Bilgo, a 51 – year – old Burkinabé businessman, was arrested on Sunday for possessing a pistol at a Catholic religious service in Hamile, Lambussie – Karni District, Extreme west.
The faithful said that Bilgo, casually dressed in a t-shirt and pants, had aroused suspicion because of his unusual behavior in the church.
When church leaders approached him, he could not speak any local language. They caused his arrest and during a search, they found a gun loaded with two rounds of ammunition.
Bilgo, a Moshi by birth, was handed over to Hamile police and transferred to Jirapa district headquarters for questioning.
When contacted, Jirapa's Chief of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr. Richard Daplah, confirmed the arrest and stated that in the initial investigation, the suspect stated that he was a mason employed by an inhabitant to build him a place of convenience.

He added that the suspect said he arrived in the country last Tuesday to begin work.
Hamile is located along the Ghana-Burkina Faso border with many unapproved routes, with residents of both camps sharing the same cultures, the same mother tongue but divided by colonial barriers.
According to the Daplah DSP, questioned about the reasons for his possession of the gun, the suspect said he was guarding him for defending himself since he had already been the victim of an armed attack in Burkina Faso.
During his arrest, the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC) held an urgent meeting with Christian and Muslim leaders, calling for vigilance to detect such offenses.
Regional Minister Hafiz Bin Salih called on the public to monitor suspects and report them to the relevant authorities.
Bishop Richard Kuuia Baawobr, Bishop of the Diocese of Wa, was shocked by the event and called for vigilance on the part of the congregation. "It's a wake-up call on public safety issues," he said.
