Manchester City has moved up to the top of the Premier League standings with two games to play after their 1-0 win over Burnley against Turf Moor.
Sergio Aguero's goal in the second half sealed all three points. City now has two wins to be crowned champion.
What happened?
The first exchanges were somewhat predictable: City dominated possession of the ball and attempted to build complex actions, but Burnley was organized and direct, interrupting the game and hitting Chris Wood whenever possible.
Indeed, it was Wood who had the first chance decent. Kyle Walker slipped and lost the ball, Jeff Hendrick played a decisive pbad for Wood, but the first touch of the striker let him down and Ederson came out quickly to save his feet.
City looked a little tense and our last bullet was missing. Bernardo Silva's left foot shot was saved by Tom Heaton, before David Silva's efforts were blocked in the box by James Tarkowski.
After a slightly disjointed opening period, City began the second period in a much more aggressive manner. Aguero forced Heaton to make a stop at the back post a few seconds after the reboot, which foreshadowed the future.
Silva's shot off the surface seemed blocked by Ashley Barnes' hand, but nothing was given, and seconds later, Heaton saved the ball to his right from the head of Ayemric Laporte.
Bernardo made a powerful effort at close range, but Heaton, who stood out as the outstanding artist of the games, was up to it. It was a wave of attacks from City, but the locals remained firm.
Finally, Burnley's goal was broken when Aguero, superb overall, scored with a left-foot effort six meters after Bernardo found it with a beautiful pbad between the feet.
The ball was above the line at just 29mm. The race for this season is determined by the best margins. It was Aguero's 20th goal of the season in the Premier League – the sixth time he has scored 20 or more in a single campaign.
Gabriel Jesus almost doubled our lead, but his shot was brilliantly cleared by former City Academy player Ben Mee. City survived a late Burnley badault with a good defense, and the full-time late-game celebrations reflected the importance of these three points.
The biggest race under all time?
In a season that has had its ups and downs, head to the top has now changed hands 30 times, more than in any other campaign.
Liverpool has 91 points, which is already the second largest amount in 127 years of history. They have the opportunity to finish with 97 points – enough to win the title in any other season – and still not at the top of the standings. Last year, City raised the bar and the Merseysiders took the challenge, creating a memorable note for the supremacy between two of the most beautiful teams in the history of English football.
It was City's 12th consecutive victory in the league, it is currently the longest race of the year to have achieved this term. This level of consistency was absolutely necessary for us to remain a title challenger in an extraordinary season.
Obstacle difficult crossed
This game has been considered by many as a difficult task. The city lost points to Turf Moor last season, its direct approach causing us difficulties. They drew 2-2 in Chelsea Monday night, disrupting the game and posing a threat to the stopped plays.
It's often the physical and uncompromising part that causes the most problems in City, and we were far from our best for much of the match.
It's as if a major hurdle had been crossed.

There are now two matches left in City and the equation is simple: win both and we become the first team in a decade to retain the Premier League title.
Leicester will travel to Etihad on Monday 6 before heading to Amex Stadium in Brighton. None of these games will be easy. Leicester, of course, beat us in the one-day Boxing Day match and took points in Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal this season as well.
Liverpool will be out at Newcastle next Saturday – a match sandwiched between his Champions League semifinal matches with Barcelona – before welcoming the Wolves on the last day.
If City wins the most points, we will become the first English club to finish a season with 14 wins in a row, beating the Arsenal record set in 2001-02.
It's an impressive title race. Is there another twist in the story?
