A 36-year-old businessman who allegedly defrauded an accountant of GH ¢ 15,000 under the pretext of obtaining a permit and a certificate for community gold mining has been brought to justice in Kaneshie district court.
Wisdom Adzoma, charged with pretense fraud and possession of a forged document, pleaded not guilty.
The tribunal chaired by Ms. Ama Adomako Kwakye admitted Adzoma to a bond of GH ¢ 20,000 with two sureties.
The accused is expected to reappear on February 1, 2021.
The prosecution, Police Inspector John Baidoo, said the complainant, Achelles Addo, resided in Lashibi while the accused resided in Doblo, near Amasaman.
Inspector Baidoo said that on January 23 of this year, the complainant met Adzoma at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, and during their conversation, the accused introduced himself to the complainant as a small-scale miner. and was currently working with the Interdepartmental Committee on Illegal Mining and that he could assist them in obtaining community mining documents.
The prosecution said the plaintiff, who was planning to engage in community mining, was convinced and decided to give it a try.
Inspector Baidoo stated that the accused charged the complainant with an amount of GH ¢ 20,000 and subsequently collected an amount of GH ¢ 15,000 to acquire the documents required for the complainant’s community mining in within four days.
“The accused after having succeeded in taking the money from the plaintiff, did not honor his promises and all the efforts made by the plaintiff to get the defendants to take the document or to recover his money were in vain,” said declared the prosecution.
According to the Prosecutor, on February 17 of this year, the complainant called the accused to inform him that he had an unspecified sum of money to give to the accused to speed up the process.
The prosecution said the accused agreed and met the plaintiff at the Alisa hotel and handed over a copy of the environmental permit (community gold mining certificate) and the community mining license to the complainant. .
The prosecutor said the complainant carried out his research and investigations and realized that the documents were false.
Adzoma, the prosecution said, was arrested and in his warning statement, he mentioned an Ofori as his source, but did not assist the police in having said Ofori arrested and assist with police investigations. .
