The development of fish landing sites and ports aims to ensure the release and safe landing of artisbad fishing and canoes. It also aims to create and maintain a hygienic environment for the processing and handling of fish.
Projects will help prevent and minimize post-harvest losses and add value to fish caught by artisbad fishermen.
The fisheries sector plays a major role in the Ghanaian national economy and contributes to 3% of GDP with a significant indirect contribution to the economy.
These include employment opportunities for offshore fishermen, shipbuilding yards, ancillary product suppliers, services and export fishing products to earn foreign currency for the country.
It is estimated that up to 12% of the total national fishery products are exported.
The completion of this project is expected to increase export volumes and directly increase the country's foreign exchange earnings.
To achieve this, said the Minister of Information, "a total of $ 235 million has been allocated to these projects located in selected areas."
"The government's vision of transforming the fishing industry in Ghana is clearly spelled out in the 2016 Nuclear Power Plant Manifesto, under Agriculture and Rural Development, on pages 18 and 19. It includes a key pillar that indicates that "The landing program will be the main objective of fishing sites and storage facilities," added the minister.
