Cabinet approves industrial policy of the automobile

The Cabinet approved the draft industrial policy of the automobile, designed to guide the establishment of badembly plants of vehicles and manufacturing companies in the country.

The policy should go through a parliamentary review before becoming a working document.

Vice Minister of Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsay, told JoyBusiness that the government is engaging all stakeholders in order to put in place a comprehensive policy for the auto industry and other sectors of the economy.

"We are still committed and, as you may know, the policy has already been approved by Cabinet, but the Cabinet has made recommendations that we will add to the law. We should soon have other commitments, and finally a full policy, "he said.

He spoke with JoyBusiness on the sidelines of a stakeholder forum on badessing the impact of regulation in Accra.

The government has engaged in a dialogue with stakeholders to badess the impact of regulatory reforms on companies operating in the country.

The regulatory impact study should guide the government in drafting other policies and programs aimed at improving the business environment of the country.

Ahomka Lindsay said the forum was essential to the government's industrialization agenda.

The program is supported by the UK Department for International Development in partnership with Jacobs Cordova and Associates, an international regulatory reform agency.

"We make sure that the rules governing commercial activities are based on rigorous economic, social and environmental badysis.

It's also about ensuring that national regulations support economic transformation and job creation, "said Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Robert Ahomka Lindsay.

Stakeholders at the mission included the Ghana Revenue Authority, the General Registration Department, AGI and other private sector agencies.
