Dr. Agnes Adu, CEO Trade Fair Center
The Cabinet approved a master plan for the redevelopment of the Ghana International Trade Fair Center.
Dr. Agnes Adu, Executive Director of the Trade Fair Center, shared it on Thursday, May 30 at the press conference of the Ministry of Information in Accra.
According to her, the management of the exhibition center was at the stage of implementation of the master plan.
She added that the redevelopment of the Center into a modern commercial exhibition site should take about three to five years.
The redevelopment should take place in three phases, the first phase leading to the creation of a 12,000-seat congress center.
Modern hotels, retail stores, among others, should be built on the site
She told reporters that the redevelopment would result in a well-planned multipurpose commercial convention, with the government expected to adopt a multi-developer partnership and public-private partnership (PPP) agreement that would cost millions of dollars.
Following the redevelopment, DGN Online is informed that Ghana will join countries such as Kenya, South Africa and Rwanda as countries with mixed-use trade convention centers in Africa.
Nigeria would undertake a similar project, while competition for foreign direct investment (FDI) intensifies in the subregion.
During the redevelopment, trade fairs must be organized in the regions, she said.
The land on which the exhibition center is located was acquired in 1967 by the Government of Ghana.
The Trade Fair Center is a limited liability company owned by the Government of Ghana.
