Asante Kotoko's new boy, Habib Mohammed, is due to make his debut against ZESCO United on Sunday in the CAF Confederation Cup match, coach Akonnor said.
The former AshGold midfielder has only played one match for the Porcupine Warriors since their arrival, but he looks set to start against ZESCO in the final group show of the competition.
With the team suffering many injuries, the former AshantiGold coach is preparing to give Habibu Mohammed a start for the club.
The versatile player could play alongside Kwame Bonsu midfield Sunday.
"It's possible that it starts," Akonnor said.
"We have that in mind, let's not forget that he joined us late. Whatever we did, he was not there. It's always going to take him some time.
"It's different between he knows me and what I do. He must know the team very well. It must be breathtaking and in this period we did not have time for it.
"But until now, he has shown good signs in the matches he has played.
"It is possible that it starts on Sunday," he said.
Asante Kotoko will have to beat Nkana FC in Zambia to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
