Angola won a place in the finals of the African Nations Cup in Egypt with a 1-0 win over hosts Botswana on Friday to finish first in Group I.

Burkina Faso's 1-0 win over Mauritania, already qualified, was not enough for the stallions to qualify for the final.

The results mean Angola dominate the group ahead of Mauritania with the best head-to-head performance, with both teams having 12 points.

The duo finishes the campaign with two points ahead of Burkina Faso and Botswana in the bottom row with one point.

Wilson Eduardo was the hero of Palancas Negras while he was debuting after exchanging national allegiances from Portugal to play for Angola.

Eduardo, whose younger brother Joao Mario plays for Inter Milan and Portugal, scored halfway through the first half.

The match was to start at the same time as Burkina Faso and Mauritania, but it finally ended almost 20 minutes later.

The kickoff to Francistown took place 10 minutes later than Ouagadogou and the failure of the spotlights early in the second half further delayed the match.
