The Embbady warned its citizens living in Ghana to pay attention to their environment
The Canadian government has warned its Ghanaian citizens to step up their security following the kidnapping of two of its nationals in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, on Tuesday.
3News announced Wednesday that the two Canadian women kidnapped in Ahodwo Tuesday around 20:25. The women, one of whom was named Lauren, were forced to get into a vehicle just as they were coming out of their Silver Spring Avenue apartment.
Police confirmed the incident, saying investigations had been initiated to try to rescue the two volunteers who were in the country under the ticket of Youth Challenge International, a non-governmental organization.
But the government on Thursday (June 6th) issued a new "violent crimes" alert for Ghana, indicating that armed robberies and kidnappings could take place.
"Be aware of your surroundings and avoid walking alone or showing signs of wealth. Make sure your doors and windows are secure, "the Canadian government tweeted on June 5th.
