The suspects in court
It was revealed that the men who abducted two Canadian women in Kumasi on June 4 contacted the families of their victims to demand ransom.
This revelation was made when the suspects appeared for the first time in court on Friday, June 14, 2019.
Senior prosecutor Hilda Craig, presenting the facts of the case, said Sampson Aghalor, the gang leader, had called the families of the two women to claim $ 800,000 as ransom for their release.
The kidnappers coated blood on their victims and on the ground to prove to their families that they were serious.
The accused are Sampson Aghalor, aka Romeo, Elvis Ojiyorwe, Jeff Omarsar, all Nigerians. The others are Yusif Yakubu, Abdul Nasir and Seidu Abubakari, aka Nba – Ghanaians.
Hilda Craig revealed that Aghalor had met Yakubu in March 2019 and had referred to the kidnapping as a trade.
Aghalor then went to Nigeria and recruited Ojiyorwe and Omarsar to join the group.
On June 4, 2019, the gang launched an abduction operation in Kumasi and managed to abduct the two Canadians after having approached them in their home in Nhyiaeso, a suburb of Kumasi, and sent them to an unfinished building. in Kenyasi Krobo.
Luck was missed by the group when a National Security team led by Colonel Micheal Opoku arrested Yusif on June 11th.
Yussif then took them to the rest of the gang, saving the two Canadians.
During their arrest, the defendants mentioned Nasir and Abubakari as part of the gang and they were also arrested.
All of the defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit an abduction, while Aghalor, Ojiyorwe, Omarsar and Yakubu were charged separately.
The hearing will continue on July 1, 2019.
