Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) National President Alhaji Shettima Yerima urged Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to rescind the resignation order he had previously given to the resident Fulani in his state and to compensate those who were victims of the attack on the Fulani. communities in the southwestern state.

Yerima told Kaduna on Sunday that Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN’s order to resign and the attack and destruction of property in Oyo that followed were not only worrying but worrying.

“Let it be known that the constitution of Nigeria guarantees every Nigerian to live in any part of this country and to be free to engage in any legitimate enterprise of his choice, the Governor of the State of Ondo being a learned person, he is expected to know better.

The AYCF will not support any group that engages in any form of criminality and such individuals should not be identified by their religion, tribe or ethnicity but should be treated as criminals.

“The attack that followed the notification of resignation in Oyo state is rather unjustified and condemnable.” The perpetrators must be brought to justice and must face all the wrath of the law.

“The AYCF supports each state’s constitutional means to protect its citizens, but notice of resignation should be excluded and should not be considered under any circumstances.

“Nigeria is an indivisible entity and anything that tends to happen in Ondo and Oyo should be discouraged in the interests of peaceful coexistence and a Nigeria.

I call on the government of Ondo and Oyo States to give peace a chance and rescind the surrender order, while those whose property has been destroyed should be compensated accordingly.

“Finally, we must guard against any act that will create a situation of war in Nigeria, we must learn from the mistakes of the past and avoid repetition because its consequences can be unimaginable,” he said.

In the same vein, the national president of the Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, Gambo Gujungu and the former general secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Mr. Anthony Sani, brought an action in favor of peace and called on the authorities of Ondo State to respect the constitution.

“As a lawyer, the Governor of Ondo State knows full well that law-abiding citizens are free to stay anywhere in Nigeria without any intimidation.

“So unless there is a hidden agenda, Fulani herders or any Nigerian for that matter should not be given an ultimatum to leave. This creates a priority that may not bode well in the long run. “

Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, national chairman of Arewa youth forum, AYF, said.

Anthony NZ Sani, former secretary of ACF, told Vanguard that; “I share the concern of the Governor of Ondo State over the widespread insecurity perpetrated by criminal elements who call themselves kidnappers and armed robberies in his state, and his determination to rid the state of crimes, given his place in the state as a chief security officer. “

“But in doing so, he should be careful in his approaches, lest he create more problems. For example, his order for herders to leave the forest within seven days amounts to ethnic profiling of crimes with the implications and effects that flow from it.

“Such disorderly generalization tends to provide criminals with platforms to hide and prostrate crimes, as it is difficult to prosecute ethnicity, religion or occupation, according to our constitution.

“This may explain what the federal government is saying, that any action that would increase insecurity and go against the constitution is counterproductive and should be avoided.

“So the best approach is for the authorities to use the intelligence community and track down and treat criminal elements in society in order to deter future events.”
