Almost everyone is affected by cancer in one way or another. On Wednesday, members of the West Virginia Cancer Community gathered for the Cancer Society Network's political network of the American Cancer Society, located in West Virginia.

The luncheon consisted of guest speakers and discussions on cancer research and its implications for citizens of the state and around the world.

The University of West Virginia's cancer director, Richard Goldberg, was present and said the luncheon also consisted of new research methods aimed at improving drugs for all types of cancer.

"For 30 years as an oncologist, we have made tremendous progress in the treatment of cancer. This is largely thanks to research. So we are very excited about new oncology drugs and personalized medicine that are saving lives we never imagined we could save, "said Goldberg.
