Basic schools in Cape Coast have resumed academic work with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for students to help control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Schools were closed for more than 10 months after the outbreak of the pandemic in Ghana in March 2020.

Schools, which reopened on Monday, January 18, 2021, have introduced several COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

During a visit to some schools, the Ghana News Agency observed that students, who had reported, were adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Ms Mercy Andam, principal of the Aboom B Methodist School, told the GNA that the school has received PPE for teachers and students to fully follow protocols.

Student Ms. Priscilla Awotwe said she was delighted to resume her studies and interact with her colleagues.

At Aboom Zion B, Principal Ms. Joyce Acquah said classes officially started on Tuesday and enrollment of new students is underway.

Students are expected to show up at 0700 hours with classes starting 0800 hours to 12 noon for primary and 0800 hours to 1530 hours for JHS students.

She said efforts were underway to make sure all students adhere to safety protocols.

Ms. Efua Arhinful, a parent, told the GNA that she was happy to bring her pupil back to school to continue her education and gain knowledge.

She said that although there would be no one to help her at the store, she was happy that schools had been reopened for her daughter to learn to be a doctor.

Madam Philippine Ekudi, principal of Kwegyir Aggrey Base School, said social distancing and other safety protocols would be strictly observed in the classrooms and around the compound.

She said classes would start from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with seven periods per day for lower and upper primary.

However, the daily periods of JHS were not yet fixed.
