Carabao Cup Final | Preview Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne thinks that the final success of the Carabao Cup Sunday will be a boost for the remaining months of the campaign – but he warns that nothing less than optimal performance against Chelsea could be costly.

The Blues have won the Premier League twice after winning the League Cup victories in 2014 and 2018 and De Bruyne said it was crucial to keep fighting on four fronts for as long as possible.

"We have the first final on Sunday and, of course, it's the first title you can win," he said.

"We've won it three times in the last six years and I think it's always nice to win it.

"Of the four titles we're looking for, we know it's the least of the four, but we do not think that way. This is one of four trophies you can win, and we want to win it.

"There are so many players who have never won that the majority of players in this group feel that we have already won twice, that would be really good.

"Plus, it always helps to win something. If you win something at the end of the year, you can say it.

"You always want to win big, but if you do not win big, then at least you will have something to show for a season OK.

"We are in a good position in the league. Obviously, we want to become champions again and we're still here, which means we've been busy and we're doing well.

"The standards we set last year were so high and had never been applied before, so let's say it's almost impossible.

"We lost only 13 points in 38 games, which is unbelievable, and Liverpool is probably going the same pace as we were last year, and we are a bit short of that."

De Bruyne will face his former club, Chelsea, in a final at Wembley for the first time on Sunday.

He has respect for his former employers and said the 6-0 win at Etihad a fortnight ago would not matter when the teams retire to Wembley.

"I think their style is quite similar to what we do to be fair," he said.

"The team is already ready for a long time; It's been a long time since the same players as when I was there are still there, so they know each other very well.

"But Maurizio Sarri has arrived this year, so they probably have growth problems, just as we did the first year Pep came in, but it's a very good team, so obviously, it's going to be tough.

"We have to be at the top of our game because if we are not, it's a game we can lose easily.

"They have a very good team and the quality and the difference are minimal, so everyone will have to be at their best."
