Carlos Vela refused to rule out a shocking move to Barcelona.
The Mexican plays for the MFC LAFC training but has become a surprise target for the giants of the Nou Camp.
Barcelona has five points ahead in the La Liga as he faces Lyon in the 16th of the Champions League.
The Spanish sports newspaper said that Barcelona had signed an agreement for the signing of a loan agreement with Vela, without however following up on it.
The 29-year-old, who also played for Real Sociedad and Arsenal, insists he's happy in Los Angeles.
He told ESPN: "These are problems for clubs and agents.
"I'm relaxed, I work on the pre-season and the most important thing is to be happy instead. In the future, we'll see what happens."
"No matter what I decide or arrive, I'll be happy because I love being in LA with my team enjoying the day and I have nothing to lose anyway."
Vela left Real Sociedad for Los Angeles a year ago and scored 14 goals during a first season that allowed LAFC to qualify for the play-offs.
He said: "I enjoyed [the first season] a lot, I took responsibility.
"This year, I'm going to take more and I can give more to this club and this league, I'm going to work for that purpose."
Vela has a new manager in charge of his national team after the resumption of Gerardo Martino, who could see him join the group.
Recently, he was kept out of the game and, although Martino can reinstate the shooter, he is also categorical: he is happy to let young players gain a vital experience.
"I think they made a good decision by bringing Tata in. Obviously, I have to talk to him to see his plans with me or without me," he added.
"I have not had the opportunity to talk to him, but I know I'll do it before the next calls [in March]. I wish him the best. I am willing to continue or withdraw for young people, all that is best for Mexico. "
