Scott Forsyth stated that he agreed that the joke was not "malicious" but that the excuses were "insincere"

A man whose phone number was tweeted by Jamie Carragher said the apologies of the football specialist were "insincere".

Scott Forsyth has received more than 65,000 WhatsApp messages after publishing his number in the online joke.

Carragher had posted the seemingly random number by asking people to send him a clip of his training partner to Sky Sports, Gary Neville, missing a goal.

A new telephone number and a new telephone number have been proposed to Mr. Forsyth. Apologies, said Carragher's representative.

He told BBC Newcastle that the former footballer had understood the difficulties that Mr. Forsyth had caused by the situation.

Neville missed a no-fault chance in a rematch against Sunday legends of the 1999 Manchester United Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

This prompted an online betting company to urge Carragher to share an excerpt of the incident on Twitter.

Carragher asked people to send him a link to Gary Neville's Missed Chance clip

Stating that he was in Turkey, the specialist asked fans to send him a clip via WhatsApp from Neville.

But the number he claimed to be his and tweeted – which he randomly composed – belonged to Mr. Forsyth of Wylam, Northumberland.

The 37-year-old said he was inundated with calls, often silent, from around the world, including India and America.

He also received more than 65,000 Whatsapp messages, some of which were "graphic".

"[Carragher] rang and said, "my friend, I just want to say that I'm really sorry to have tweeted your number … you had to have one or two phone calls," said Mr. Forsyth.

"I thought he was a little insincere in his way of talking, he did not really seem to feel remorse or that it was a big problem."

Mr. Forsyth said that he had agreed that the joke was not malicious, but that he did not want a new phone number because he had kept it for 12 years.

"He explained to me that he was drunk, and that he had also tweeted this shortly after tweeting my number." He was charged with alcohol.

"I appreciate his call but I do not think it was sincere.Do not drink and tweet, that's all I can say.I do not think that there is had malicious intent in there, it was a tad stupid. "
