Adapted by Andrew Lloyd Webber of TS The musical "Cats", created in 1939 by Eliot in the "Book of Practical Cats of the Old Possum", was premiered at the New London Theater in the West End of London in 1981 and was played for 21 years and nearly 9,000 performances. In 1983, he opened on Broadway and lasted 18 years, winning seven Tonys, including Best Musical.
Since then, "Cats" has been featured in more than 30 countries, translated into 15 languages and seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.
A new tour based on the 2016 Broadway revival is stopping this week at the Walton Arts Center.
