Well, here's something we were not expecting today: the very first trailer of Joseph Kosinski's long, seemingly troubled and exceptionally smooth sequel to 1986 Top Gun, aka The film that my father saw more than any other movie.
He has everything you could want in a Top Gun trailer in a row: people singing in a bar, Tom Cruise wearing a fur-lined jacket, many aerial waterfalls, Tom Cruise sporting his smile on the bike, sweaty guys playing volleyball and finally, a cover of the one This iconic theme song.
See what you think:
You know what I mean? This has all the familiar symptoms of a Top Gun movie. More Jon Hamm (Note: The inclusion of Jon Hamm improves everything by at least 400%)! Is this a suite that we need? Absolutely not. Is there reason to be cautious, given the many setbacks suffered by this project throughout its production? Absolutely. Am I an easy layman who was sold on a very ticket second this theme song has started? You bet your pretty bad.
Here is a summary of the incredibly brief and very official plot:
"Pete" Maverick "Mitchell coaches a new generation of American fighter pilots."
Aaaand here is a new poster:
What do you think? Do you like what you see here? Do you think it will be too much of a rehash? Are you crazy about Tom Cruise doing stunts and making fun of everything that could happen in this movie?
