Former health minister Alex Segbefia said the results of the recent post-election survey released by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) are an indictment of the government’s commitment to fight Corruption.
Mr Segbefia said the government should be concerned that the survey paints a clear picture of the apathy towards the fight against corruption in Ghana.
“It’s just the fact that this is an indictment on the performance of the government over a period of time. If I were in their shoes, I would be extremely worried because that does not make a good reading for a government, especially in the areas of corruption.
The survey revealed that the majority of Ghanaians do not trust President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fight corruption.
“While Ghanaians are divided (48% vs. 48%) on the government’s ability to ensure respect for the rule of law over the next four years, the majority [of them] are not confident in its ability to protect the country’s financial resources (53%) and fight corruption and official impunity (62%), ”the report notes.
Mr Segbefia, who is also the head of the NDC’s international relations office, said the results of the investigation put the NDC in a good light, as it gives the impression that the opposition party is doing well. better than the ruling NPP in the fight against corruption.
“We have done pretty well but not as much as we might have hoped, but in terms of what the Akufo-Addo government has done, it is not holding up well,” Segbefia said.
To win the hearts of Ghanaians, Mr. Segbefia called on the ruling NPP to focus on ending the culture of impunity.
“The culture of impunity is so high that it goes beyond simply not fighting corruption. I think the government needs to come back and give people hope that there is a better future. The rhetoric and the rhetoric must stop and there must be more action, ”he said.
