The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, inaugurated a newly created badembly, the Central Municipal Assembly of Ablekuma (ABCMA), whose capital is Latebiokorshie.
The Minister, on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, introduced a legislative instrument (LI 2376) legitimizing the existence and operation of the ABCMA at the badembly during the meeting. an inaugural ceremony in Accra.
The ABCMA was created by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). It is one of six simultaneous inaugurations by the government on Tuesday, bringing to 260 the total number of metropolitan, municipal and district bademblies (MMDAs) in the country. .

Ceremony of inauguration
Leaders, MPs, members of various political parties, municipal and district chiefs (MDCEs), representatives of various ministries, electoral sector coordinators, police, and others attended the ceremony.
It was characterized by the inauguration of the badembly office and the induction of members of the ABCMA Assembly, who would take care of its affairs until a president was elected later.
Governance at the door
In her inaugural speech, Hajia Alima Mahama said that the badembly was purposefully created to send governance to the doors of the people and accelerate the development of the region.
"Assemblies are areas of concentration of rural and urban development of the government.
They include improving the quality of life, using regeneration and industrialization of agriculture, as well as urban renewal programs focusing on the development and maintenance of urban infrastructure, "she said.
She added that "short and medium-term flagship projects and initiatives will be successful if the Assemblies play their part in our program of revitalizing the economy, modernizing economic and social infrastructure, of transformation of agriculture and industry, social development and reform. delivering the governance of the institution, "she said.

The minister also urged the badembly to speed up revenue collection, especially property taxes, as it was the main source of funding for the development project.

The government will support with two million cedis to take off. We will support you with more funds if you manage to improve your revenue collection, "she said.
She said the ministry was developing software to help bademblies mobilize their revenues.

Hajia Alima Mahama also observed that sanitation was a problem for most bademblies and advised all badembly members to prioritize remediation in each of their actions.
