The Chamber of Local Authorities (CHaLOG) has expressed concern over what it describes as a rush by the government to have the presidential candidates confirmed by members of the assembly across the country.
He indicates that the confirmation of the candidates for the positions of administrators of the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDCE) is supposed to be done at a special meeting fixed by the presiding member.
CHALOG chairman Dr Richard Fiadomor said the government was wrong to roll out a timeline for the confirmation of MMDCE candidates.
“We think this is inappropriate and goes against the assembly rule model.
“Anyway, now the government that told us that the absence of the MMDCE does not create any vacuum is the same government in a hurry to give the assemblies schedules to respect.
“This should tell everyone and Ghanaians should know that this government has not been truthful,” he told Class FM.
He believes things would have been different if the presiding members had been allowed to make their own plans for confirmations.
Some presidential candidates were rejected by their members of the Assembly after failing to secure two-thirds of the votes.
