I guess it was inevitable, but it still stings a bit. After four scary seasons, Syfy canceled the excellent series of anthologies, under-monitored Zero string. Although the series had fans (me included), it did not generate the same buzz as American horror story. Now it's over. We can hope that now that with Zero string canceled by Syfy, another network – or a streaming service – could detect it. But in the meantime, we'll have to settle for the four memorable seasons we've seen.

And especially four great directors, Craig Macneill, Steven Piet, Arkasha Stevenson and Evan Katz. And before all that, the authors of the original stories of creepypasta. Kris Straub, Brian Russell, Kerry Hammond and Charlotte Bywater. I am deeply grateful for this experience. Especially for all who have watched, spoken and written about the series. Zero string Inspired stories of creepypasta – online folklore was spreading originally via discussion forums. Each season told a distinct and autonomous story, and the results were almost always spectacular. From the four seasons, season 3 – Channel Zero: Butcher's Block – was the only one to feel unequal and unsatisfactory. The rest, especially the fourth and now final season Channel Zero: The door of dreamseveryone had their own moments of greatness. Another gratifying aspect of the show is that each season gave a different filmmaker the chance to shine.
As Antosca told me in an interview for Season 3, "The show has always been designed to be a showcase for emerging filmmakers – as I want every season to be a showcase for someone from really exciting who [for it] have your own flavor and voice. And … each season has a really different visual style and tone. "
There are a multitude of creepypasta stories that could have inspired Zero string for the coming years. But unfortunately, it just was not in the cards. But the fact that Antosca said it would have "liked to do more" seasons leaves me a minimum of hope. Maybe someone will save the show. Shudder, the AMC-owned streaming horror service, is slowly getting started in the original game. The first three seasons of Zero string are currently streaming there, and season four will arrive soon. Perhaps they could stop the show and keep it going. Or maybe that's the end.
