Thousands of people were caught in the chaos of Heathrow Airport after a breakdown of the baggage system – forcing some pbadengers to miss their flight.

Comedian Eddie Izzard was among British Airways pbadengers stranded in queues for up to two hours when the bag fell in Terminal Five this morning.

Chaos at Heathrow Terminal 5. The complete bag system has been out of order for over an hour. No one can leave their luggage. Excellent start of vacation, no. Thank you British Airways! You deserve these 2 + billion profits!

This happens just one day before the break of most British schools for the summer holidays and amid the summer strike threats.

Mr. Izzard tweeted: "I hope BA can do it soon, because the pbadengers have been waiting for a long time."

David Rose, furious, wrote: "The chaos at Heathrow Terminal 5.

"The complete suitcase system has been out of order for over an hour and no one can leave their suitcases.

"Very good start to the holiday, no, thank you British Airways, you deserve these 2 billion profits!"

He then tweeted that the system had "collapsed" and that he was in danger of missing his flight.

Mary Tanay, an oncology nurse, said she had to book her next flight tweeting: "What a really stressful morning for all staff and pbadengers."

The airline told pbadengers on Twitter: "Due to a baggage system problem, we need more time to accept baggage than we would like.

"Our London Heathrow team is approaching pbadengers and badisting those who are making imminent departures, and we thank you for your patience while you wait."

A spokesman for Heathrow said that all flights still existed from the airport.

While they were in Gatwick this morning, pbadengers reported separate problems when handing over British Airways baggage.

Antony wrote on Twitter: "I had the displeasure of using the @British Airways

"Self-service" baggage drop at Gatwick South Terminal. It's a nightmare.

"We needed help for 3 out of 4 bags. Can we go back to real people, please?"

BA responded by saying that they were "aware" of the Luggage System problem in London Gatwick.

This comes as Ryanair pbadengers have been warned that they could be affected by delays and disruptions as a result of the proposed strikes at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted later this month.
