ST. LOUIS (AP) – A police officer was charged with involuntary manslaughter after the shooting death of a policewoman during what has been described as a deadly game with a revolver.

District Attorney Kim Gardner announced the charge against Nathaniel Hendren, 29, in the death of Katlyn Alix, 24, while they allegedly played a game in which the cylinder of a revolver had been emptied, a bullet pushed back and the two colleagues pointing in turn. one to the other and pulling the trigger.
Alix was with two male officers in an apartment when she was killed shortly before Thursday morning. A statement of the probable cause of the police, provided by Gardner's office, offered a frightening account of the dangerous game that led to his death.
According to the statement of probable cause, Alix and Hendren would play with firearms when Hendren manufactured a revolver.
"The defendant emptied the barrel of the revolver and then put a cartridge back in the barrel," the statement said. He would have turned the cylinder, pointed the gun and pulled the trigger.

The gun did not fire. According to the statement, Alix took the gun, pointed it at Hendren and pulled the trigger. Once again, he did not shoot.
Hendren "picked up the gun and pointed it at the victim (and) pulled the trigger, thus allowing the weapon to discharge," the statement said. "The victim was hit in the chest."
The other officer told the investigators that he had warned Hendren and Alix not to play with guns and reminded them that they were police officers. He was about to leave when he heard the deadly shot, according to the statement.
The police took Alix to a hospital where she died. Hendren is also accused of armed criminal acts.
Both men were on duty at the time of the shooting. Police Chief John Hayden refused to answer questions about why police officers had gathered at the apartment where one of the men lived.
The St. Louis police said that these charges resulted from a promise made by the Hayden family to the Alix family to conduct a "thorough and competent investigation".
Alix, a former soldier who was married, did not work but met the men at the apartment.
The police immediately launched an internal investigation and put both officers on paid leave. Gardner also opened his own investigation Thursday and tasked the Missouri State Highway patrol with conducting it.
Alix was a patrol graduate of the St. Louis Police Academy in January 2017.
