On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana), a professional organization of banks and financial institutions in Ghana, paid tribute to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia at the 22nd National Banking Conference in Accra.

This award recognized the special role that Vice President Bawumia had played in the development of the Institute, his contributions to the transformation of the banking sector and his overall performance in Ghana's financial landscape.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was named Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 2007.

The accompanying plaque, delivered to Vice President Bawumia by CIB-Ghana President Reverend Patricia Sappor, reads as follows:

"This special award is presented to His Excellency Mr. Mahamudu Bawumia, FCIB, Vice President of Ghana, for your important contribution to the banking sector.

"For having distinguished you as a licensed banker, as a Senior Economist and, therefore, as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in June 2006.

"For your many achievements, especially as a member of the team that designed and implemented the successful redenomination of cedis, for having played an important role in the design and implementation of political initiatives such as the abolition of reserve requirements and the opening of public markets, the banking sector to competition, by developing a strategy to access international capital markets with a first investment of US $ 750 million, which has been four times oversubscribed.

"The recent launch of the Mobile Money Interoperability System in Ghana and as a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana), for honoring the profession by baduming the senior position of Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. "

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia expressed gratitude to the leaders and members of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Ghana) for the honor bestowed upon him.
