Chelsea has appealed its FIFA transfer ban, with the hearing scheduled to take place on April 11th.
The Blues are currently barred from signing players this summer or next January for violating the rules surrounding the transfer of minors.
FIFA confirmed Monday that Chelsea – who has also been fined £ 460,000 – has officially appealed the decision.
Chelsea appealed against FIFA's ban on two windows
FIFA stated that Chelsea had received written reasons from its Discipline Committee justifying the one – year ban and explaining why a request for freezing the ban during the course of the proceedings. appeal had been rejected.
Chelsea may apply to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for an interim decision terminating the sanction pending appeal to FIFA, but CAS states that Chelsea has not requested such an interim measure.
In February, FIFA banned Chelsea from registering new players for two transfer periods – after this season and in January 2020 – in 29 breaches of the rules protecting teenage players. The club denies having committed a wrongdoing.
The world football governing body rejected Chelsea's initial appeal, which means the restrictions will apply from this summer if this audience also fails for the Blues.
The Blues are currently prevented from signing players this summer or next January.
However, the case will be heard before the opening of the summer transfer window, which means that Chelsea can resume its plans if they cancel or suspend the original decision.
The decision to ban Chelsea led to speculation about the future of several key players, such as Eden Hazard, who was due to leave the club this summer.
However, Chelsea could now look to keep Hazard, as they can not replace one, while young players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi could benefit with better team opportunities.
Chelsea also worries that the ban may deter potential leadership candidates, current incumbent Maurizio Sarri being in a precarious position following a disappointing championship season.
The Blues are struggling to rank among the top four in the Premier League, meaning they would miss the Champions League next season.
