Dennis Wise urged Frank Lampard to be patient and stay at Derby, rather than hold the Chelsea post this summer.

Lampard is the big favorite to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, the Italian group being named the next boss of Juventus.

But Blues legend Wise, Lampard's predecessor in the Chelsea midfielder, says it's too early for his former teammate to take such a big step.

"I'm surprised, if I'm honest," said Wise to talk about SPORT about Lampard's ties to the Blues.

"He did a good job getting them [Derby] in the play-offs. But going to the finals and not climbing is not enough.

"In the last five seasons, they have played in the playoffs three times. This is something they have already done.

"I think it would be nice if he stays there. The wait at Derby is to try to make them participate in play-offs and get them up.

"The expectation of Chelsea is to enter the Champions League and try to win trophies against the best teams.

"It's a big jump from Derby to Chelsea if that happens."

Wise, however, would expect the Rams leader to accept the post at Chelsea if he offers it.

"It's a huge risk, but that's what Frank is talking about," he added.

"He'll take that risk. He will want to try it. He can say that he will bring young people although he is forbidden to transfer.

"I do not think it's okay, I think it should be a little patient.Lampard left five years ago and it's a team of players different from the one he had left.

"They respect him as a player and as a person, but the first thing he will have to do is earn respect as a coach.

"There are other managers, he is not the only one. But it seems like everyone wants Frank to get the job because he was such a great player there. "
