Maurizio Sarri told Danny Drinkwater that he was surplus at Chelsea before the start of the current season.
The former Leicester star, Drinkwater, did not participate in a competitive match under coach Sarri at Chelsea this season. She was arrested on April 9 for drunken driving in Cheshire.
Sarri informed Drinkwater in August that he could not fit into his tactical system and suggested he find a new club – but the English midfielder chose to stay at Stamford Bridge.

"He knows very well that he has never played because, in my opinion, it does not suit my system, my way of playing," Sarri said. "I told him everything in August. He appreciated, but he decided to stay and so he knew the situation very well.
"I spoke to him in August, while the market was still open. I told him that he should look for something different. In my opinion, he does not play. And I told him the reasons, my reasons. But, as I have already said, he decided to stay in Chelsea.
When asked if Drinkwater was unable to adapt to his "Sarriball" style of ownership, Chelsea's boss replied, "No, I do not think so. That's my point of view. I may be wrong, but that's my opinion. I'm trying (to be honest). Of course, sometimes you have to say something different. But in 99% of the cases, I try to be honest.
When asked why Drinkwater had stayed, Sarri replied, "I do not know; he probably hoped we could change the system, I think.
"I have a very good relationship with him because, in my opinion, he is a good boy. He is a good player. He is a good player. And he can play very well in a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1. But it does not suit me. He knows it, but I have good relations with him.
"I can not do anything A player usually only wants to play, nothing else, so I can not do anything, I can only have a good relationship with him, no more, for the moment I'm not able to satisfy him as a player, so it's very difficult, but he knew.
Chelsea's appeal against a two-window ban on recruiting foreign players under 18 will be heard by FIFA on Thursday. The Blues insisted that they had been "surprised" by the suspension and still wanted the embargo to be overturned.
Chelsea's legal team will attend the hearing in Zurich just hours before the men of Stamford Bridge are against Slavia Prague in their first-leg match in the Europa League quarter-final. And Sarri insisted that he forbid any discussion on this hearing before the Sinobo Stadium clash against Slavia.
When asked if he would ask for news of the appeal hearing, Sarri replied, "Not before the game, of course. We have a club that is very careful about everything, so I do not want to talk about it.
"We are here for the Europa League, a very important target for us, and I want my players to think only of the Europa League."
