Maurizio Sarri said he left Callum Hudson-Odoi out of the Chelsea squad to face Bournemouth on Wednesday night because he only had room for three drivers.

West Londoners were beaten 4-0 at Vitality Stadium, while Bournemouth crushed visitors in the second period, while Josh King, David Brooks and Charlie Daniels all scored.

Hudson-Odoi was not named to the Chelsea team, although he traveled to the south coast and impressed in the FA Cup last time.

Instead, Pedro and Hazard were brought back into the starting lineup – both rested against Sheffield on Wednesday – with Willian occupying a spot on the bench.

Speaking of the decision to leave Hudson-Odoi out of the group after the game, Sarri explained, "He was with us, he was playing three days ago.

"There was Willian, so I only had one winger on the bench. We have four wingers, one in the stands. "

Sarri's decision to drop Hudson-Odoi will have done little to convince the teenager that his future remains at Stamford Bridge, as a transfer request was rejected earlier this week.

Before the match, Chelsea boss explained his changes in more detail: "We have to play the matches in six days, we have to change.

'Pedro rested the last game, today I thought it was better to change, as well as Emerson and Marcos Alonso.

"Emerson right now is doing very well, has played well in the last two games, he was on the field, it's time to use it for the starting lineup."
