The French international thinks he's deserving a bigger role at Stamford Bridge if he wants to stay at the club beyond this season
Olivier Giroud does not hesitate to feel "very frustrated" to play back-up in Chelsea and asked for a more important role he remained.
Giroud arrived at Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2017, but since then he has only made 13 Premier League starts for the Stamford Bridge club.
At first, he found himself at the second violin of Alvaro Morata. Although the Spanish left earlier this year, Gonzalo Higuain was recruited and Giroud remained a peripheral figure despite the failures of the Argentine.
Publisher's choice
Giroud was part of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup and he is categorical: he deserves a bigger share in Chelsea.
Speaking before the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Slavia Prague, Giroud said: "Believe me, I am very frustrated not to be on the pitch, but I do not want to show it.
"You have to keep this frustration and turn it into positive energy, trust me, I'm not happy to play the second role.
"Next year, I will need a bigger role. Most important for me is to be happy on the pitch, enjoy the game and have more minutes." .
"I'm a competitor, I really want to play more, I just want to enjoy it because I'm 32 and I won the World Cup, but I want to retire with satisfaction."
Giroud also agrees that the uncertainty surrounding the Chelsea transfer ban does not help to clarify his future.
FIFA issued an embargo on transfers from two windows regarding purchases of players under 18, but they appealed and could still appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"I must meet Marina [Granovskaia, club director]but obviously I could be here [next season], "Said Giroud. I do not know, I have no idea about that now, but before the end of the season [he wants clarity].
"Obviously, we still do not know if the club will have the opportunity to name players or not.
"Maybe it's a bit confusing now. There's no reason they do not give me a year more, but I must also be happy."
