Chelsea goaltender Kepa Arrizabalaga is Spain's number one for the moment.

David de Gea, of Manchester United, saw his form for La Roja be the subject of close scrutiny after a bad performance at this summer's World Cup in Russia and his club-level performances towards the end of the season did not improve.

While Kepa inspired the Blues to the glory of the Europa League, he was the hero of the semifinal win against Eintracht Frankfurt, before allowing his team to rank among the top three in the Premier League .

As a result, Kepa kept his place between the poles for Spain's two international matches last week and Luis Enrique's badistant, Robert Moreno, explained why this was so.

"We do not think the De Gea period with Spain is over," said Moreno. m said. "But Kepa had an unbelievable end to the season – champion of the Europa League with great performances.

"At this very moment, we thought Kepa could help us in a better way.

"The competition is launched, when you have something easy, you relax and it's not good.

"Competitiveness is also good for the purpose."

What Kepa has sent a message to his rival insisting on his intention to remain Spain 's top choice between the sticks in the foreseeable future before next summer' s European Championships.

"I will continue to work as I have done so far, doing my best to keep the confidence of the coach," Kepa told Marca. "Whoever plays will play very well, of course I understand that David is sad, we all train to play, and then it's the coach's decision and it's up to you to react."

"We are still surrounded by such controversies, but we must take it naturally, I am happy to play, help the team and finish the season in the best possible way.

"The season was very long, but before we left we had these two very important commitments and we are happy to finish in the best possible way."
