A team of policemen and soldiers arrested 12 people and recovered six single-barreled pistols in Nambiri, a community in Chorkosi, on Friday.

Following recent clashes between the Chorkosi and Konkomba communities in the northern Chereponi district, the joint police and military police team is conducting regular patrols in the district.

It was during one of the patrols that the team came across a person brandishing a single gun.

"The suspect fled when he saw the patrol team but was prosecuted and arrested," police said in a statement.

"The team then decided to conduct searches in the community where the weapons were recovered and their owners arrested to badist in the investigations."

Six of the suspects who had no evidence were released on police bail, the police said.

The remaining suspects were arrested in Yendi.

Meanwhile, the communities of Konkomba and Chorkosi remain calm and peaceful due to intensive police / military patrols, coupled with extensive community commitments on the need to allow peace to prevail.
