The Chicago Fire has acquired Philadelphia Union striker C.J. Sapong, the club announced Saturday.
Sapong, 30, is changing clubs for a combined allowance of up to $ 450,000. The Union is expected to receive $ 200,000 in 2019 General Allocation, $ 100,000 in 2020 Targeted allocation and possibly an additional amount in 2019.
"CJ has produced many memorable moments in a union jersey and his efforts in the community have been admirable," said union sporting director Ernst Tanner in a statement.
"Given the solid state of our depth chart, we believe it's the best solution for both CJ and the union at this time."
United States international, Sapong spent eight seasons in the MLS, which also included a layover at Sporting Kansas City.
He scored 56 goals and provided 23 badists in 233 appearances in the MLS during his career.
"CJ brings different skills to our attack options," Fire Chief Executive Nelson Rodriguez said in a statement. "We can now be more varied in the way we attack."
Sapong has been limited four times by the United States. His last appearance came in the January friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
