The Chicago Fire fired coach Raphael Wicky late Wednesday night, just hours after the team beat New York City FC 2-0, sources confirmed to Athleticism Thursday.
The decision to fire Wicky comes as the team is 7-6-15 and set to not make the playoffs for a second straight season. Chicago couldn’t qualify for the playoffs in 2020, although the league tried a playoff format that went from 14 teams to 18. The 2021 playoffs will revert to the 14-team roster.
It was Wicky’s second season at the helm of The Fire. In 2020, the team compiled a 5-8-10 record.
