Sheik Abdul Mumin Harun Sheikh Abdul-Mumin Harun, Regional Chief of Ashanti

Sheikh Abdul-Mumin Harun, regional leader of Ashanti, approved the candidacy of President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo for the second term, after he prayed to God to grant his president a new four-year term to lead the country.

He said the president needed another mandate to be able to continue his policy and sustain the Muslim community in Ghana.

Sheik Harun was speaking at the Kumasi Central Mosque during this year's Edul-Fitr prayers.

The regional imam has invoked the application of government policies such as 1D1F, Free SHS and Planting for Food and Jobs to justify his prayer to the president.

He added that these policies have helped Ghanaians, including Muslim communities in the country.

"May God Almighty help our President Nana Akufo-Addo to get a new four-year term. We pray for Nana Akufo Addo, we are behind him. We support and pray for any government that comes, but we pray that Nana Akufo-Addo will get another four-year term, "he said.

Imam Chief's Approval Reflects Ghana's Viewpoint – NPP Organizer

Francis Adumako, regional organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ashanti, said the Imam's approval truly reflected the views of the general Ghanaian population.

He said that the NPP administration is the only government that is committed to Muslims and has always supported the Muslim community in all areas.

"I'm not surprised that the Imam regional chief endorsed the president because he compared all the different governments that came. And comparing the NDC government and the NPP government who have done a lot for just two years, it's no wonder he has to support President Akufo-Addo, "he said.

The NPP regional organizer called on Ghanaians to be patient and help the government deliver on all its promises before the 2016 general election.
