Chief of Staff of Chad Fire Brigade after Boko Haram Attack 23

Chadian President Idriss Deby fired his chief of staff of the armed forces following the latest conflict that resulted in a Boko Haram attack that left 23 dead.

Deby fired Brahim Seid Mahamat and his two deputies by presidential decree after six years of presence Friday night, just hours after the attack in the south-west of the country.

The soldiers were killed after being attacked by jihadists in the early hours of Friday morning during the deadliest attack on the Chadian army by Boko Haram, who had launched an insurgency in Nigeria there is ten years.

The unrest spread to neighboring Niger and Chad with the Boko Haram uprising, which killed more than 27,000 people and uprooted more than 1.7 million people.

The attack on Friday was held in Dangdala, on the northeastern shore of Lake Chad.

On Thursday, eight civilians were killed in Karidi, in southeastern Niger, in the Diffa region, on Lake Chad. This region is one of the most affected by jihadist attacks in Niger.

Troops from Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Chad have been regrouped into a multinational Boko Haram counter-force.

Air Force suspensions followed the discovery of debris from a helicopter missing more than a week ago in the north.

The sparsely populated, mostly desert region, located near the border with Sudan, Libya and Niger, is subject to attacks by Chadian rebel groups based on the other side of the Libyan border.

In late January, France pounded Chadian rebels who had returned from Libya to their country to end their incursion.
