The Chinese government has awarded scholarships to some 310 Ghanaian students to attend various teaching programs at renowned Chinese universities this year.
Students would take courses such as engineering, medicine, architecture, agriculture and information communication technologies at Peking University, Tsinghua University and other renowned Chinese universities. .
China's ambbadador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, said this at the 2019 Chinese government scholarship ceremony in Accra on Friday.
He noted that, at present, 6,475 Ghanaian students are studying in China, while the Chinese Embbady in Ghana issued 1,329 study visas last year. Ghanaian students to study in China.
This makes Ghana the largest number of African students studying in China, exceeding the number of Nigerian and South African students, Wang said.
The Chinese ambbadador urged the winners to study hard, respect Chinese laws, live in harmony with Chinese and foreign students, and serve as good ambbadadors for Ghana.
The awarding of the scholarship, he said, demonstrates the Chinese government's commitment to developing Ghana's human resources, which he said would go a long way towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
"People-to-people exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have deepened and anchored friendship in our hearts," said Wang.
He urged the winners to seize this opportunity to learn Chinese culture and language, to make Chinese friends and to foster good relations with students from other parts of the world.
The Chinese Ambbadador said that China and Ghana share the common conviction to invest in youth education. He therefore congratulated the Ghanaian government for presenting the policy of free high schools and promised the Chinese government's support for its implementation.
Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, guest of honor at the ceremony, urged the winners to seize the opportunity offered to them to seriously study, to explore the Chinese cultural values that enabled economic transformation and return to the country with a broader perspective of life to contribute to the country's development.
