BEIJING – A measure of factory activity in China hit its all-time low in more than two years in November, adding to pressure on Beijing in the middle of a tariff battle between US President Donald Trump.
The China Federation of Logistics and Procurement announced Friday that its monthly Purchasing Managers' Index rose from 50.2 to 50.2 in October. Numbers above 50 indicate that activity is increasing.
The industry said that Chinese economic activity was "still on a downward trend". It blamed weak domestic demand for the latest decline.
Washington and Beijing have increased tariffs on billions of dollars of reciprocal goods as part of a struggle for a technology policy. This has not yet had much impact on the Chinese economy, but forecasters say exports are likely to weaken early next year.
