China has continued to exempt national anti-HIV drugs from the value-added tax on production and distribution, an official statement said Wednesday.

The exemption, in effect from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020, will support HIV / AIDS prevention and control efforts, according to the joint statement by the Ministry of Finance and the National Tax Administration. .

The eight types of anti-HIV drugs, including zidovudine, lamivudine and efavirenz, have all been chosen as officially designated drugs that must be purchased by the government and distributed free of charge to AIDS patients.

Drug production and distribution companies must keep drug supply contracts for inspection by tax authorities, the statement said.

The Chinese authorities will develop a health badistance program to help people from poor families in rural areas to receive treatment for 25 major diseases, including an HIV-related infection this year.
