Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to visit Ghana this year to deepen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and his country, reported B & FT.
According to the local newspaper, sources said the visit of the president of the world's second largest economy would aim to make the visit of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to China last year.
Ghana and China have established bilateral cooperation in many areas, including education, health and the military.
Last year, President Akufo-Addo was one of the African leaders invited to participate in the Beijing Summit on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
He had separate bilateral talks with President Xi and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on strengthening ties of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
The opportunity was also used to sign a $ 2 billion barter agreement with the Chinese.
The Chinese president's visit will be his first in Ghana since he became president in 2013.
At the 2018 China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) held in Beijing, President Xi revealed that China would support Africa with $ 60 billion to finance infrastructure on the continent.
The funding, he said, would be provided in the form of government badistance, investment and financing by financial institutions and companies.
This funding includes $ 15 billion in grants, interest-free and preferential loans, $ 20 billion in credit lines, the creation of a $ 10 billion special fund for development financing and $ 5 billion in financing. billions of dollars in special funds to finance imports from Africa.
Chinese companies are also encouraged to invest at least $ 10 billion in investments in Africa over the next three years. In the area of education, China has provided Ghana with a $ 60 million grant to support the second phase of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
China is also committed to increasing its financial support in Africa to about 50,000 students this year. At present, Ghana has the largest number of students in China, with about 7,000 Ghanaians attending school in China.
Mr. Edward Boateng, Ghana's Ambbadador to the People's Republic of China, told B & FT that bilateral cooperation between Ghana and China has been accelerated since President Akufo-Addo took office to the presidency in 2017.
"Last year, for example, was a good year and we saw many Ghanaian ministers and government officials attending various summits in China," he said.
