On July 5, Chinese virologist Qiu Xiangguo was escorted from Canada's National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in Winnipeg, Canada, for "violation of the policy," Canadian media reported on Sunday.

Canadian intelligence removed Dr. Qiu from the lab with her husband and an unknown number of her students.

Qiu is an internationally renowned virologist who has contributed to the development of ZMapp, a treatment for the deadly Ebola virus with his colleague Gary Kobinger.
