CChoose your snack after workout before going to the gym – otherwise, you risk canceling your good job, say the scientists.
American research shows that those who make a decision after a treadmill pounding session were more likely than those who planned to go for an indulgent brownie instead of choosing an apple.
The study of over 250 people attending a gym divided them into two groups. About half of them were asked to choose a snack before starting a workout, the others having made their decision later.
About 74% of participants surveyed before the training session chose an apple. But this was only the choice of 55% of those surveyed afterwards, a fall of about one-third.
And while 14% of pre-exercise group participants chose a brownie after, about 20% of group members who made their decision after their workout decided to let go.
The scientists said the findings suggested that many people were more likely to opt for healthier snacks if they had been hungry, and they felt they deserved a reward.
The study, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, published in the journal Nutrients, involved two groups of people who had been asked to follow their normal workout schedule and who had the choice between a apple, a brownie or no snack.
