Chris Eubank Jr has revealed that Gennadiy Golovkin’s side have “shown interest” in a world title fight, with the British contender keen to win “an epic war”.
Eubank Jr will stay on course for a world title if he defeats Sven Elbir at SSE Wembley Arena on Saturday 2 October, live on Sky Sports.
The 31-year-old is aiming for a massive clash with IBF champion Golovkin, which could come after Eubank Jr receives a mandatory WBA title fight later this year.
“With what happened with the withdrawal of the provisional titles, we are now mandatory challengers for the super belts or the regular belts, so yes, we are pushing for those fights now,” Eubank Jr told Sky Sports.
“By the end of the year, I will fight 100% for a world title and win one.”
Ryota Murata holds the WBA “super” title, while Erislandy Lara is also recognized as a WBA champion.
“I want the best dog. I want the main belt, the top belt,” said Eubank Jr.
“Murata is the fight that would make the most sense and the one we are going to push for.”
Golovkin has yet to return since retaining his IBF belt with a seventh round save by Kamil Szeremeta.
But Eubank Jr says he has been singled out as a potential opponent of the Kazakh star.
“The fight is already attracting them, they have been in contact with us,” Eubank Jr told Sky Sports. “They have shown interest so if I can get a world title then this fight is almost over.
“There has been interest in a future fight. It must be [inevitable].
“He’s a world champion and I’m the # 1 contender. I’m the most exciting fighter in the weight division. I’m the fighter the fans want to see with these guys, so it has to happen.
“I’ve been visualizing him for years and I know how to beat him. I just have to have the opportunity and it happens.
“The styles that me and him have, it can only be an epic war.
“He doesn’t know how to fight backwards and I don’t know how to stop punching.
“You combine these two styles and you are ready for a legendary boxing match.”
