Christian Doidge: Forest Green striker regains confidence after troubled Bolton loan

Christian Doidge was originally scheduled to transfer his loan to Bolton permanently within the January transfer deadline.

Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper said Christian Doidge was "damaged" by his Bolton loan.

Doidge was recalled by his parent club this month when an embargo on Bolton listings resulted in the collapse of his final relocation project.

"I think that would have dispelled the dilemma he was in," Cooper said.

"To close a deal that you thought was taken in such ridiculous circumstances, you have to finish."

Doidge had to make a seven-digit turn towards The Trotters when the deal was initially reached in August. But after his recall, Forest Green president Dale Vince said Bolton had no way to honor him.

The 26-year-old scored twice in his third game at Forest Green after beating Grimsby 3-0 in Ligue 2 on Tuesday.

"I think the move to Bolton could have it slightly damaged," Cooper told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"Going to a team where he had no chance, all he was doing was running and running, it was really the limitation of the damage.

"But his character's strength was visible on Tuesday and he bounced back with two typical Christian Doidge goals."
