Christian Pulisic admits that his career at Chelsea has had a difficult start, but he is confident that he will prosper under Frank Lampard.

Chelsea recruited Borussia Dortmund's US international winger for a record 58 million pounds in January, but the 20-year-old spent the second half of last season at the Bundesliga club.

Pulisic's involvement in the CONCACAF Gold Cup delayed his pre-season training start, but he was slow to qualify for the second half of Friday's 1-0 loss to Kawasaki Frontale.

The fast winger, who is likely to directly replace Eden Hazard, was impressed during a 25-minute appearance but admitted that he still has to adapt to his new environment and his teammates.

"Yes, I'm really happy to be here with the team and to participate in a real match for the first time, that's really good," he said after his debut.

"He was a very good opponent, you saw that they tested us for 90 minutes and scored a good goal in the end. It was difficult but that's why we are ready to prepare for the season.

"We want to try to improve every game and get more game adjustments and a 90-minute preparation, which has helped us today.

"I'm really happy to be here with the team. It feels good. " ?

'It's hard to get into things, I feel really good. It's great to work with the coach and all those guys. He tested me but it's great so far.

"It's great, I grew up watching him [Frank] and have it here to give me advice and help the team. It's great to have it and nice to have a guy you can really relate to.

"It will be another big game [against Barcelona] and we will prepare more for the start of the season. "
