Christians in Ghana join their brothers around the world in celebrating Palm Sunday, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem a few days before his arrest and crucifixion.
This day is also the last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of the holy week of the Christian calendar.
It is called Palm Sunday because, according to the Gospel, the people placed palm leaves on Jesus' path and waved their hands as he greeted him amid the cries of Hosanna, hoping that he was the Messiah to bring them peace.
He mounted a young donkey and was also greeted by townspeople with songs and praise, at the time of launching their clothes and on the ground so that he could continue in tribute.
Today, the faithful use palm leaves for the reconstruction of the procession of Christ in Jerusalem around the world.
Children are very present at Palm Sunday parades in Ghana.
The palm frond was adopted in Christian iconography to represent the victory of the martyrs, or the victory of the spirit over the flesh.
